The first railway loading operation in the new siding at the Vopak Terquimsa terminal of the Port of Barcelona is now a reality. The new operation allows the company to provide its customers with a first level facility for the logistics of liquid bulk rail.

The new facility has meant an investment of close to 1 million euros. The infrastructure installed in the public railway terminal of the Port of Barcelona's Energy wharf has 345 m2 and has the capacity to operate compositions of up to 14 wagons (210 meters).

The new railway siding has a mixed width, being able to load Iberian gauge wagons as well as European width, thus allowing the Vopak Terquimsa hinterland to be extended to southern Europe. Eduardo Sañudo, Managing Director of Vopak Terquimsa says that "with this new infrastructure Terquimsa allows Barcelona to connect Europe with Europe-wide railway, thus expanding our chances of being competitive as a port when it comes to putting products in Europe."

This new infrastructure of Vopak Terquimsa highlights the commitment with Barcelona and is part of the Strategic Plan of the Port of Barcelona that is committed to intermodality. The goal is to give more flexibility to the terminal, allowing the Port of Barcelona to maintain its leadership as the main logistics node in the Mediterranean.
